Council delegation showcase county in New York

Roscommon County Council, represented by its Cathaoirleach, Cllr. Liam Callaghan, Chief Executive Shane Tiernan and Director of Services Caitlín Conneely are in New York currently for a series of official engagements marking St. Patrick's Day.

There was excellent collaboration and engagement regarding the connection of US markets for emerging and growing Roscommon companies, the ever-increasing tourism proposition of Roscommon and connecting foreign and direct investment (FDI) with the county.

While there, they met with Joshua Healy, VP Emerging Business and Will Molanco of IDA Ireland as well as Kevin Ryan, Head US East Coast operations for Enterprise Ireland. The group also met with David Wood, Brittany Gallagher and Jack Foley of Tourism Ireland.

Throughout their visit, the potential of Roscommon for key inward investment was made. The visiting delegation also attended the annual Roscommon New York St. Patrick's Day Gala Dinner.

During their trip, the group also met Boyle native Hilary T. Beirne, founding Director at Irish America 250 and founder and chairman emeritus of the NYC St Patrick's Day foundation.

Mr. Beirne later presented the iconic bronze shoes for first US site of the Extended Famine Way which commences at Strokestown Park House, at an event held at New York City Hall yesterday (Mon. Mar. 16th).

Addressing the Roscommon New York Society St. Patrick’s Day Dinner, Cathaoirleach of Roscommon County Council, Cllr. Liam Callaghan paid tribute to the organisers of the event and paid particular tribute Thomas P. Giblin and Michael K. Farrell who were both recognised with special recognition awards.

Cllr. Callaghan also acknowledged the work of Monsignor Kevin Flanagan was born in Kilglass and Ballinlough native Mary Montgomery who were both recognised as special honourees at the gala dinner.

“Our diaspora community fulfil a very important role for the people they serve. We in Roscommon County Council are acutely conscious of this, which colours our attitude to the support of our citizens, wherever they may live.

“Roscommon people contribute greatly to the social and economic well-being of your city, through economic investment and support of many social and cultural initiatives. My presence here is to thank you for that work,” said Cllr. Callaghan.
